I always loved Marty's music and had the chance to go to one of his concerts just once. It was the most memorable concert I've ever been to. It was in Houston MN. During the concert someone kept calling out for Marty to sing Mr. Shorty. Finally Marty said that he was thinking about it and when he had all the words thought out he'd sing it and that he did. What a loss when we lost Marty.

My father was the one to introduce me to Marty. It was his storyline and wonderful retailing of the wild west through song that attracted me so strongly. While all of his material is great it is these songs I love the most. I noticed that a lot of people have been inquiering about live performances on tape. i beleive Austin City Limits has aired at least one live performance of Marty's. If you visit them at Austin Cyber Limits I am sure you could find info on it. i beleive the url is www.pbs.org/klru/austin Anyways thanks for the Marty page and info. Steven

Hello,
My name is,"Vivian Kirby", I have been a fan of, "Marty Robbins" since the, 1950's. How well I remember dancing to his songs. And crying to a lot of them. Marty had a voice that make chills run up your spine. I remember when Marty passed away how I cried and thought to myself what a great person would be missed. But, not the singing. His singing will go on forever. I listen to all of Marty's songs over and over again. I will never get tired of listen to them.
Yes, Marty Robbins has gone. But, his songs will live on.

Pleasing all of us pleased Marty. When Combined with Jerry Byrd, one could hear perfection doubled. I still have an unopened vinyl LP of Marty playing Dobro which I'll give a spin one of these days.

I was a devoted fan and made every attempt possible to see Marty any time he was near. One year he was appearing at a county fair near us and as I walked up to the stage to take a picture he leaned over and gave me a kiss, which I do not need to say, thrilled me to death. Several years later I was fortunate enough to get to go to Nashville and of course we attended the Opry. He played and sang as long as they would allow him on stage and then told all of us who were standing up front to get pictures to meet him in the alley and he would pose for pictures. We were still visiting with him at 3:00 A.M. He was a wonderful person and a FANTASTIC entertainer and I too miss him to this day, but thanks to all of his records, tapes and CDs I can still enjoy his music!!! I think this web site is absolutely wonderful and want to thank you for keeping Marty and the other great artists in the limelight. THANKS Jo Criss

I am 55 and grew up loving rock & roll so aturally I was familiar with a few of Marty's songs that crossed over into pop and R&R. I ahve been doing a radio show for the past 10 years and somewhat burned out on the music I loved so long. I started listening to some country from the 50's and 60's and had forgotten how much I loved Marty Robbins. I have every available release of his and truly believe he is among the top two or three artists of all time. I never knew until recently that he recorded the beautiful song "Hurt" which is my favorite by Marty. What a fabulous singer as well as a man!

I am now listening to the Great Marty Robbins. It is such a shame that such a great singer and person has to leave us at such a early age. I remember seeing him in person when I was in the Air Force in 1963 in Panama City Florida. Later I saw him at the Lane county Fair at Eugene, Oregon. I just wish that I could have met him in person.
At least I have his music to listen to.
Thanks for your site.

First of all, I can't thank you enough Kristy for this unbelievable website! Finally, there's a place I can feel amongst friends that appreciate and love Marty Robbins and his music like I do. There is so much I want to say and even more I can't find the words to say. I discovered the blessing that was Marty's music when I was about 10 or so. My parents had several Country & Western music collections that had various artists doing their hits. I remember hearing Streets of Laredo and being amazed at how much the singer seemed to actually feel what he was singing. I checked and found out the singer was named Marty Robbins. I loved the song and began to try to find more stuff by the same singer (not easy when you're 10, believe me!). I found one other song that got my attention: Big Iron. Alas, I don't remember any other Marty discoveries until 6 years later. In those 6 years, I became interested in soft rock, hard rock, and heavy metal, but none of them really made me feel much in the way of pleasure or emotions. While I was 16, my mother passed away. I was devastated; then I heard a song on the Muzak system in the hospital. It was Some Memories Just Won't Die (not the best music for a hospital, perhaps) and it comforted me with the knowledge that life would go on for me, even if not pleasantly for awhile. That song sent me on a quest to locate everything Marty Robbins ever did. I failed in that quest, but discovered that Marty Robbins albums were anything but scarce. Since that time, I've loved the music and the man. Upon learning that Marty had written so many of his own songs, I was even more impressed. Marty made EVERY song he did his own. Very few other artists can have that claim made of them. The more I see, hear, or read about the life and times of Marty, the more I realize that the loss of the 1 and Only Marty Robbins was a blow that no one who knew him (even if only through his albums, like me) will recover from. I miss Marty every time I hear one of his songs or see one of his performances on TV. Thanks for the the site again!

Excellent website for Marty! Marty was a very good friend of mine. I was working for him at his office at the time of his death. I still miss him so much. I've spent the past 10 years running the Marty Robbins Fan Club and have gotten to know so many of his wonderful fans. I'm glad to see you've kept his name out there also, via this web site. The fan club is in the process of doing a website too. You've done a great job with this one!

In the mid eighties Marty came to Adelaide.South Austalia. A mate of mine surprised me with a ticket which was in the front row. As Marty played the piano he reached down to shake hands with me, the only person to do so that night. He asked me my favourite which I replied "She was only 17". He said ok Barry this one is for you. Hey I have always loved the guy and have a very big collection of his music.

I met Marty Robbins the summer of '82 when he managing my then 17 yr. old daughter, singer songwriter Susan Peters. He was a very gracious man, and he told me he was going to try very hard to make Susan a "star". He had her do a single for Warner Brothers (a sequel to I'm Gonna Hire a Wino" which she had never heard. No matter where Marty was singing, he would call Susan and cheer her up and could always make her laugh. He was to fly to CA and have Susan do another recording on 12/13/82, but we all know he went to be with the Lord on 12/08/82. I flew Susan to Nashville for his funeral so she could have closure, but it took over two years for Susan to get over Marty's untimely passing. She didn't sing for quite sometime. He was like a father to her and said she reminded him of his daughter, and when he met me, he told Susan I resembled his lovely wife which I felt flattered me. Eventually Susan started singing and writing again and married a cowboy like Marty who died two years ago. Susan now lives in Altoona, PA and has written hundreds of songs and still plays her guitar and keyboard and I must say that Marty would be very proud of her. She now goes by the name Susan Peters Bear and has conquered that mountain that Marty sang about. Marty was the greatest male singer I have ever heard because of his versatility and his great range. James Burton who was Elvis Prestley's guitarist once told me that Susan was the female Marty Robbins because of her style of singing. She could never receive a greater compliment. God bless Marty's family and friends---we will never forget him. Sincerely, Idee Peters Davis (professionally known as Sunny Davis).

I once saw Marty at a concert her performed at the Gallia County Fair in Gallipolis, Ohio. It was a wonderful concert! I had taken my Mom and Dad to the concert because my father is a major Marty Robbins fan. I was fairly young at the time, around 21 or 22, but I thoroughly enjoyed listening to Marty sing. He was a wonderful entertainer. The best part of the concert was when I stood in line to get Marty's autograph for my father. I asked him if I could give him a kiss on the cheek. He gave me a big hug and kiss and was very friendly and personable. I will always cherish that memory. I am now 40 years old and still fondly recall that moment.

I just wanted to add my tribute to Marty Robbins to the rest of them listed on this web page. Marty was the best entertainer of all time. I was lucky enough to have seen him in concert probably a half dozen times and each concert was as good as the previous one. Marty's voice was so smooth and wonderful, yes, but HE made the concerts. His personality, his voice, his music. I've listened to Marty Robbins all of my life. My mother & grandmother were Marty fans, so of course I would grow up with Marty's music. I have many records and 8 track tapes. Yes! 8 track tapes. And believe it or not, I still have an old stereo that plays these records and 8 tracks! I couldn't give them up for anything in the world. It took me a long time to collect what I have and I just can't give up my Marty! I remember when I was 19. I had joined the "work force" when I graduated from high school, so after a year I had earned my first real vacation. I flew to Nashville by myself. I visited the different stores and museums and bought my ticket for the Grand Ole Opry, but the most enjoyable experience I had was visiting Marty's office. I probably visited his office 4 or 5 times that whole week. I became friends with his bookkeeper and secretary. I got to help put a portfolio of Marty together for the office. IT WAS SO WONDERFUL! Just being a part of it was the best vacation I could ask for. When Marty died, it was like I had a lost a good friend. Marty, you have been missed! Carla from Florida

I wrote earlier about my daughter's association with Marty in 1981-1982 when she was 17. Her name was Susan Peters & Is now Susan Peters Bear the last name being her late husband's name. Susan is writing constantly & sends us 3 & 4 songs every week---one being a sequel in some way to El Paso--"The Ghost of Rio Grande". It is wonderful & Marty would be so proud. If you would like to correspond with Susan Peters Bear, her address is 2117 18th Street, Altoona, PA 16601. We will be visiting her durong the month of October. We recently put 8 of her songs on a CD & plan to do most of her songs & introduce them to many of the artists out there today, although I personally believe she can sing them as well as most performers. My E-mail address has changed recently to sunnyday@qwest.internet.net. We love Marty---He can never be replaced. God bless his memory. Sunny & Doug Davis, 14222 Pacific Ave. S., Tacoma, WA 98444

I played in skiffle bands and pop bands throughout the sixties and seventies and wherever we played, someone would always come up to us afterwards and say they were pleased we sang some of Marty's songs. There are lots of Yanks in Norfolk, U.K. and they really love his music. And so did we. We had some great times on the American airbase singing his songs over a cup of coffee or a glass of beer. "Man that sure was terrible. Terrible good." I just wish I had met him.

I have written before regarding my daughter's association with Marty.
We now have a new E-mail address: doug_sunny@msn.com just in case anyone has tried to contact us. We just put together two books of Susan's songs---a Country Collection & a Gospel Collection. She was singing and writing for Marty at age 17-18 and when he died she didn't sing or write for a couple years. She has had a lot of trauma in her life, but God is with her, and she gives Him the credit for all He has done for her. She had a serious back and neck injury in 1984 and has suffered tremendously since then, but has composed & recorded many beautiful songs. She plays guitar, keyboard & drums & she has a phenomenal singing range. She's a beautiful woman now at age 34 and lives in Altoona, PA. We hope to bring her to Nashville one day and introduce her music to that area. She loved Marty like a Dad, and she can tell many funny experiences she had when with Marty & his friends Bob Hinkle & Don Sessions. When Marty had her do a recording for Warner Brothers, he told her it was best that she not eat beforehand. He didn't know that she suffered from low blood sugar, and being so young and not really knowing Marty, she did what he said & became quite weak during the recording session. When they went to his limo afterwards, Susan passed out and scared Marty out of his wits. When she explained what happened, he took her immediately to get something to eat & then she was fine. We know that Marty never forgot that, and we can now laugh about it. Susan can be contacted thru our E-mail or (253) 536-5558 or directly to her at Susan Peters, 2117 18th St., Altoona, PA 16601. We will be spending the month of October with her. Sincerely, Idee Peters Davis

As I sat listening to El Paso for the umpteen millionth time, I
thought it appropriate to drop a note to express my feelings. Marty's
music is as fresh and appealing to me today as it was when I first
heard it as a child. I was 23 when he died, and I will never
completely get over it. He was one of my favorite artists. Greats
come and go, but there will never be another like him. When I watch
the biography on Marty, I can't help but shed a tear... for the
family left behind, for the unfinished work of a master, for all of
us who never got the chance to convey to Marty how much his music
meant to us, and for someone who sacrificed so much of himself for
us, his fans.

Its quite amazing the number of web pages that are now available on the fabulous Marty Robbins.
I would have to say that yours Kristy would be the premier site, please keep it going. Another
great site is a mutual friends site. Helen's Marty Robbins Page which I see you have in your links
page.
Recently here in Australia one radion personality John Laws [Mr Radio Aust]
has played El Paso a few times of late and always speaks very highly of Marty.
I feel sure everyone will remember with great affection what would have been
Marty's special birthday next September 26th.

"I'll be waiting on you to come back!"He motioned for me to come forward underneath the roped off area and have the best seat in the house!!I was so surprised and grateful! He was also very kind and polite when we said hi after the show.He stayed after the show and made sure everyone got to talk to him and get an autograph. He was a very special man and I hope he is at peace.

Marty Robbins means the same to me as what Gene Autry meant to him.
I only got to see Marty perform in person twice, but those are "MEMORIES That Just Don't Die", nor do I want them to.
He Was Then, He Is Now, & I Guess He Always Will BE the best singer to ever appear on the stage at the Grand Ole Opry or anywhere else
I have a daughter that was born Dec.16,1982, just 8 days after Marty's
passing, so each Dec. is filled with mixed emotion. I have requested taht these songs by Marty be played at my funeral: First- An Evening Prayer, Second- With His Hands On My Shoulder & Third- A Little Spot In Heaven. I loved Marty Robbins & I will always miss him.
Sincerely
